Milestones of Growth
The University of Law, Hue University traces its roots to the Faculty of Law established under the Institute of Hue University in 1957. In 1990, the Legal Studies Division was formed within Hue University of Sciences (formerly Hue University of General Studies). By 2000, this division evolved into the Faculty of Law under the same institution.
In 2009, the Faculty of Law was restructured as an independent entity under Hue University, separate from the University of Sciences. A pivotal moment came on March 3, 2015, when the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 274/QĐ-TTg, officially establishing the University of Law, Hue University. Since then, it has emerged as a prestigious hub for legal education and research in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, earning recognition nationwide.
Throughout its development, the University of Law has focused on elevating the quality of education, advancing legal research, serving the community, and providing legal services and policy consultation. Its overarching goal is to become a leading national institution for higher education, research, and technology transfer in the field ofBindings law.
The University of Law boasts a highly capable management team and faculty, meeting the demands of its mission. It has also facilitated opportunities for lecturers to enhance their expertise at renowned institutions domestically and abroad, significantly improving the quality of its academic staff.
In 2015, the University of Law had 71 permanent staff and lecturers, including 2 Associate Professors, 12 Ph.D. holders, 48 Master’s degree holders, and 11 Bachelor’s degree holders. By September 2024, this number had grown to 171, comprising 5 Associate Professors, 39 Ph.D. holders, 113 Master’s degree holders, and 15 Bachelor’s degree holders.
Many of the University of Law’s lecturers have studied and conducted research in advanced countries, gaining fluency in foreign languages and the ability to collaborate directly with international experts. This has positioned the University of Law, Hue University, as a model for other higher education institutions, both in Vietnam and abroad, to visit and exchange expertise.
Expand the vision, strengthen the position
With nearly 70 years of undergraduate legal education and over 15 years of postgraduate training, the University of Law at Hue University has awarded degrees to thousands of students, master’s candidates, and doctoral researchers. Annually, over 90% of its graduates secure employment.

The university offers multi-tiered programs, including one Ph.D. program in Economic Law, two master’s programs (Economic Law and Theory and History of State and Law), and two undergraduate programs in Law and Economic Law. To meet the demand for high-quality professionals in an era of global integration, since early 2022, the university has introduced bilingual Vietnamese-English programs for Law and Economic Law. It is also developing an application-oriented undergraduate program, set for a pilot launch in the 2025-2026 academic year. During training, the university emphasizes partnerships with international companies and organizations, enabling students to gain practical experience in fields such as international commercial arbitration, legal practice, and global litigation.
All undergraduate programs at the university have been accredited under Circular 04/2016 of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Alongside education and research, the University of Law actively collaborates with businesses to facilitate job opportunities for graduates. It has established a robust network with domestic and international agencies, law firms, and enterprises to organize internships, career workshops, job fairs, and counseling sessions. These initiatives allow students to engage with real-world work environments while still in school, equipping them with the necessary skills and orientation for the job market.
The university also places significant emphasis on scholarships, awarding thousands to students with outstanding academic achievements or those facing financial hardships. These awards not only recognize excellence but also provide substantial encouragement for students to pursue knowledge.
In addition to formal education, the university offers continuing education programs, including second bachelor’s degrees, work-study programs, and pathways from intermediate or college levels to university degrees, both on-campus and at partner institutions. It also provides short-term training and certification courses. Furthermore, the university has strengthened its training of high-caliber professionals for Laos, graduating 157 students between 2020 and 2022, significantly contributing to Vietnam-Laos friendship.
From 2015 to 2024, the university organized nine national and five international scientific conferences and hosted 17 delegations of experts from Japan, France, China, the United States, Thailand, Estonia, and other countries for lectures, workshops, and professional exchanges with faculty and students.
Its research and technology efforts include 309 projects at various levels, 1,231 articles published in domestic and international journals recognized by the State Council for Professorship, including 50 in WoS/Scopus-indexed journals, and 104 published books (textbooks, monographs, reference materials, and study guides).
Currently, the University of Law serves as the “Chair of the Vietnamese Law School Network” for the 2024-2027 term and has been ranked by Times Higher Education (THE) in the 601+ group for Law within the Social Sciences and Business-Economics categories. The university aims to achieve full autonomy by 2030, establishing itself as a leading law training institution in Vietnam.
For its achievements, the university has received numerous commendations from the Minister of Education and Training, the Director of Hue University, and other authorities over the years.
On its 10th anniversary, the University of Law was honored with the Third-Class Labor Medal from the President of Vietnam, a significant recognition that inspires its continued pursuit of excellence.
Building on its accomplishments, the faculty, staff, and workers of the University of Law remain united in their commitment to becoming a prestigious, internationally recognized institution with a strong global and domestic standing—a mission dedicated to directly serving Vietnam’s development.
