Opening the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Rector of the University, delivered a speech recalling the university’s proud 68-year history, which began as the Faculty of Law under Hue University and officially became "University of Law, Hue University" 10 years ago. Over the years, the university has continuously expanded in terms of infrastructure, faculty, and academic programs.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong reflects on the 68-year journey of formation and growth, and 10 years since the university’s establishment (2015–2025).
Hue University of Law takes pride in being one of the most reputable legal education institutions in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. Its predecessor, the Faculty of Law under Hue University, was established in 1957 and operated until 1975. After a period of interruption, it was reestablished in 1990 as the Legal Studies Department under Hue University of General Studies. In 2000, it became the Faculty of Law under Hue University of Sciences. A historic milestone came on March 3, 2015, when the Prime Minister signed a decision officially establishing Hue University of Law under Hue University.
The past 10 years have marked a journey of dedicated effort and growth. From a newly established university, Hue University of Law has steadily enhanced the quality of its education and expanded its academic offerings. The university now provides undergraduate to doctoral programs, including specialized fields such as Economic Law, Theory and History of State and Law, and bilingual Vietnamese-English curricula to meet the demands of international integration.
A key factor behind the university’s success is its highly qualified academic staff. From 71 full-time lecturers in 2015, the faculty has grown to 171 members, including 5 Associate Professors, 39 PhDs, and 113 Master’s degree holders — a clear testament to its significant strides in both teaching and research.
In addition to education, the university has also solidified its reputation in scientific research and international cooperation. It has organized 14 national and 17 international academic conferences, welcoming 17 guest lecturers and experts from countries such as Japan, France, and the United States, thereby enhancing academic quality and building strong international partnerships.
Over the past decade, Hue University of Law has also emphasized community service and fostering international friendship. The university has awarded degrees to 7,054 undergraduate students, 1,693 master’s graduates, and 4 doctoral candidates. Moreover, it has contributed to the training of high-quality human resources for neighboring Laos, reinforcing the special Vietnam-Laos friendship.
Constantly evolving and asserting its status nationally and regionally, Hue University of Law currently holds the position of Chair of the Vietnamese Law School Network (2024–2026). Notably, the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings have placed the university’s Law discipline in the 601+ band within the Social Sciences and Business-Economics categories.
In his address at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong emphasized:
"Looking back on the 68 years of formation and development and 10 years since our establishment—these numbers represent not only the passage of time but also the shared story of countless generations of teachers, staff, and students who have built and nurtured this institution. Today, we are not only proud of the path we have traveled but, more importantly, are reflecting together on the university's role, mission, and responsibilities in this new era."
