National conference on “Innovating and Improving the quality of Legal Journals” held at the University of Law, Hue University
Update day: 29-11-2024On the morning of November 29, 2024, the University of Law, Hue University, in collaboration with the School of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, co-organized the national conference titled “Innovating and Improving the Quality of Legal Journals.” The conference attracted the participation of numerous researchers and scholars from across the country.
The conference welcomed prominent figures from the Law Professorship Council, including Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Thai, Chairman; Prof. Dr. Dao Tri Uc, former Chairman; Prof. Dr. Vo Khanh Vinh, Vice Chairman; and Dr. Nguyen Van Huu from the Office of the State Professorship Council.
Representing the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences was Dr. Nguyen Linh Giang, Deputy Director of the Institute of State and Law.
From the co-organizer, the School of Law, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Vice Rector, attended the event.
The conference also featured the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Trung Hien, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Can Tho University; journalist Ngo Thi Dieu Thuy, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Industry and Trade; Dr. Lieu Chi Trung, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Vietnam Lawyer Journal; and representatives from legal journals across the country.
Representing Hue University was Dr. Nguyen Chi Bao, Deputy Head of the Department of Science, Technology, and International Cooperation.
Representing the University of Law, Hue University, were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong, Party Secretary and Rector; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Duy Phuong, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Rector, along with heads and deputy heads of departments, faculty members, and students of the university.
In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong emphasized that the conference was a valuable opportunity for scientists, experts, and delegates to discuss ways to leverage strengths and propose solutions to further enhance the reputation and quality of legal journals nationwide. He also expressed his hope that the conference would be organized annually to create a prestigious forum for building an innovative and high-quality environment for legal journals.
Under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Duc Luong and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, the conference covered five key themes: (i) The role of scientific journals in the development of legal studies and suggestions for enhancing their quality and role in Vietnam; (ii) The development of legal studies and legal journals in Vietnam; (iii) Criteria for evaluating scientific journals; (iv) International integration of Vietnam’s legal journals; (v) Processes and evaluation standards of scientific journals by WoS and Scopus, and lessons for improving the quality of legal journals in Vietnam.
The conference featured presentations by researchers, followed by a dynamic and multi-dimensional discussion session. Experts, researchers, and delegates exchanged experiences on journal management, addressing various issues related to legal journals in Vietnam. Key areas of focus included:
- Editorial processes.
- Peer review networks.
- Funding and publication fees.
- DOI registration and participation in international citation databases such as ACI.
- Standardizing citation formats for journals.
- Utilizing anti-plagiarism tools in the peer-review process.
The conference provided an academic platform for exchange and also represented a concerted effort to advance the development of legal journals. With in-depth content and the participation of esteemed experts, the event offered diverse perspectives aligned with societal trends and the demand for higher-quality legal journals in Vietnam.
